The Express series of automatic bar feeders changes over fast, thereby improving the productivity of Swiss-style and fixed-headstock lathes. Express 220 and 320 from LNS America Inc., Cincinnati, (lnsamerica.com), make partial changeovers in as little as two min. and complete changeovers in just eight. Model 220 handles bar-stock diameters from 0.079 to 0.787 in. while model 320 accommodates diameters from 0.125 to 0.787 in. Automatic adjustments built into the machines make changeovers quick. Operators enter values through a control keypad. For partial changeovers, operators enter new bar diameters, part lengths, and guide channel diameters. The system then sets torque, feed rate, bar-stock diameter, steady-rest diameter and headstock synchronization. The only mechanical adjustment is changing collet size for each new bar-stock diameter.
