Cambridge Heart and Cardiac Science team to better predict CSA
Cambridge Heart, Tewsksbury, MA, a developer of non-invasive diagnostic tests for cardiac disease and its OEM partner, Cardiac Science Corporation, Bothell, WA, have agreed to include Cambridge’s Microvolt T-Wave Alternans (MTWA) on Cardiac Science Corp’s Q-Stress (with Treadmill) Systems.
Microvolt T-Wave Alternans is a marker of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) risk, which is measured during the non-invasive treadmill test. The MTWA test is the only one of its kind that is reimbursed by Medicare under a National Coverage Policy.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the US, accounting for an estimated 300,000 deaths each year—more than lung cancer, breast cancer and HIV/AIDS combined. Out-of-hospital survival is less than 8%, making prediction and prevention critically important. Approximately 10 to 12 million heart attack and heart failure patients in the US could benefit from annual MTWA testing.
