Studer S12cncs from United Grinding Technologies, (grinding.com), are cylindrical grinders that handle small and medium-size components requiring nanometer precision grinding. The machines have a new, patented, drive/guide system based on high-precision positionable linear motors. The S12's rigid guide tables with hydrostatic bearings are magnetically pretensioned. Users can program infeed movement in 10-nanometer steps, and liner motors generate infeed speeds up to 30m/min, accelerating up to 3 m/sec2. The grinders feature simultaneous external and internal as well as centerless grinding. In addition, the machines allow all conventional dressing including profile-roll and continuous. The S12cncs feature a 150 mm distance-between-centers and a 500 mm grinding-wheel diameter.
