Inserts Machine Stainless Steel at High Speed

New inserts with polished faces and cutting edges are intended for cutting stainless steel. The AC610M and AC630M grades from Sumitomo Electric Carbide Inc., Mount Prospect, IL, (sumicarbide.com) combine advanced substrates with wear-resistant Al2O3 and TiCN coatings for long tool life. The AC630M features excellent peeling and notch-wear resistance, according to the company. The AC610M is particularly suited for high-speed and high-efficiency cutting. The Rockford Burrall Machine Co., Rockford, Ill., says switching to the AC610M boosted tool life 50% over that of previous cutters in machining 15-5PH stainless steel at 600 sfm. Both grades come in positive and negative insert styles.
