SMC buys India-based electronics firm

Design, mold, and medical contract-manufacturing firm SMC, Somerset, Wisc., (smcltd.com) has acquired Laxmi Electronics, a Bangalore, India-based manufacturer with similar skills. The division in India will be called SMC Laxmi Electronics. “This acquisition brings benefits to those seeking to develop products in the U.S. and have long term manufacturing in Asia,” says Chetan N. Patel, SMC's President and CEO. “The acquisition establishes our presence in Asia and lets us participate in the growth of India's manufacturing base.” Founded in 1983 as a mold manufacturer, SMC Laxmi Electronics works with thermoplastics and has grown to three facilities totaling over 100,000 ft2. U.S. facilities total over 200,000 ft2. The ISO-certified company also provides precision injection molding and contract-manufacturing services to Asia, Europe, and the United States.
