UV sterilization decontaminates package exteriors

A non-contact sterilization system from Xenon Corp., Wilmington, Mass. (xenoncorp.com) instantly kills microorganisms on the outside of packages to prevent contamination when opened. The SteriPulse-XL surface decontamination system uses pulsed UV light to sanitize packages of sterile contents and prevents microorganisms from entering a clean room or other sterile area.

The low temperature, non-contact system is capable of 6 log kill in less than 1 sec and eliminates the need for vapors and toxic chemicals for integration into most on-line isolation transfer ports.

The SteriPulse-XL features 16-in. lamps that deliver a peak energy 100,000 times more powerful than the sun to destroy the DNA repair mechanism of microbes. The UV light assures contents are not damaged, with high throughput of less than 100°F heat.
