Connector on dental cam keeps image clean
The 0.025-in. pitch connector uses Omnetics’ Flex Pin contacts for signal integrity despite extreme temperatures, shock, and vibration. The camera (not shown) uses a 16-position single-strip Nano connector with video cable to trim assembly time. Inset shows details that patients see.
A miniature dental imager includes an in-mouth camera about the size of a toothbrush and weighs only an ounce. The SuniCam camera from Suni Medical Imaging Inc., San Jose, Calif. (sunimedical.com) lets dentists take pictures and show patients outer areas of the teeth and gums-including lesions, cracks, and calculus build-up on a computer screen. The camera plugs into a USB port on a computer or laptop. Suni Medical engineers selected Nano-Miniature connectors from Omnetics Connector Corp., Minneapolis, Minn. (omnetics.com) because of their size.
