Converter chip for CT equipment

The ADAS1128 24-bit current-to-digital converter chip by Analog Devices, Norwood, MA, lets CT scanners capture real-time moving images — such as a beating heart — with a high degree of accuracy and detail. The 1 cmē chip includes 128 data-conversion channels, selectable sample rates up to 20 kSPS, and on-chip temperature sensor and reference buffer. The chip supports four times more channels and over three times the throughput of other devices, says the company. The chip uses only 4.5 mW/channel at full speed and provides ultra-low noise (down to 0.4 fC for low-dose X-ray systems).
