Device simulates upright position while lying down

MRIs and CAT scans are great diagnostic tools, but they have their drawbacks. One is that patients usually have to lie down. This relaxes their spines which masks some spinal problems on the resulting images. The L-Spine from DynaWell Int. AB, Bildall, Sweden, is a simple device that puts pressure on the spine, up to 50% of body weight. This replicates a standing position and lets physicians see the spine in a more natural state. Patients simply don a vest, securing it with straps, put their feet on the footplate, then connect and adjust the compression cords — one for each leg.
