Tech Spotlight: Sensors

Modularity customizes pressure sensors

The MM series pressure transducers are available in gage, absolute, barometric, vacuum, compound, and differential styles, in ranges from 0 to 10 in. H2O through 0 to 5,000 psi. An online “configurator” lets engineers choose pressure type, range, units, accuracy, electrical output, process fittings, and electrical termination. The pressure sensors are for fluid and gas-measurement applications.

Big range for small profile

Ultrasonic sensor has a 40-cm sensing range and a 2.5-cm blind zone (an area directly in front of the sensor face in which objects cannot be detected because they are too close). The small-profile sensor mounts in narrow spaces, and it is available with retro-reflective and diffuse operation modes, and frequency modes.

Programmable encoders accommodate values from 1 to 65,536 PPR

The DFS60 series determines angles, positions, speeds, and accelerations in automation technology. The incremental encoders let system integrators and distributors select any line count from 1 to 65,536 pulses/revolution (PPR) via their computers using a programming tool. Users are also able to set the zero pulse width to 90°, 180°, or 270° and program the electrical interface to either HTL or TTL. Units are available in blind-hollow shaft, through-hollow shaft, and solid-shaft models, and have a mechanical design and a metal code disc for increased temperature tolerances.

Logger tracks temps in transit

A multifunction temperature logger and smart-label RFID device allows monitoring and receiving of temperature and humidity throughout the transport of sensitive substances, such as medicines and blood bags. The ZMD41211 has an on-chip passive transponder, temperature sensor, timer, and EEPROM. The logger has eight modes of temperature recording, and can make up to 720 temperature readings.

Submersible transmitters for low liquid levels

Submersible OEM pressure sensors provide hydrostatic low level measurement from 50 mbar (0.5 m water column) full scale. The KTE2000CS series consists of capacitive ceramic pressure cells in a stainless steel construction, and they are compatible with corrosive and aggressive liquids. The transmitters are calibrated and temperature compensated from -20 to +70C, and they provide a 4 to 20 mA output signal. A cable with vent tube lets a reference pressure get to the sensor element to eliminate errors due to atmospheric pressure changes.
