Software Automates Electrode Design
Electrode design software, PS-Electrode, customizes a tool's shape and then simulate its operation. The software from Delcam Inc., Windsor, Ontario, Canada, (delcam.com) includes several catalogues of blanks and holders. The software lets users define a region on a part to be made by the electrode, create the shape to produce the required feature, extend surfaces to provide clearance from the main surface of the tool, and blend them into the shape needed to fix the electrode to a holder. Once complete, set-up sheets to manufacture the electrode can be produced to a standard or user-defined template. Previously, set-up sheets could only be issued as drawings but now they can also be generated as HTML files or Microsoft Excel spread sheets. In addition, many suppliers put CAD models of blanks and holders on their Web sites. These can be copied into the software's database.
