Greenville Health System (GHS) has launched a pilot program, offering new mHealth tools to its employees with diabetes. GHS is making available the Telcare Blood Glucose Meter, the first cellular-enabled blood glucose monitor that combines a secure, cloud-based care-management server with automated reporting and messaging. It allows for customized treatment plans—relaying blood sugar information from patient to doctor.
The meters are being used on a pilot basis by select employees, with plans to make the device more broadly available to more employees later this year. The mHealth technology includes machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions that are designed and adjusted for the healthcare industry. M2M technology enables cellular devices to exchange information with other devices or networks, therefore creating business solutions. The Telcare meter will allow diabetic patients to better manage their health.
