The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Chicago, (ascp.org) a non-profit organization for pathologists, cytotechnologists, and laboratory professionals, acquired the complete cytology product line of the Midwest Institute for Medical Education (MIME) and is now offering gynecological cytology proficiency testing and education approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It has mandated that each cytotechnologist and pathologist examining gynecologic preparations be enrolled in an approved program in 2006.
