Boston is right choice for AdvaMed
AdvaMed, the Advanced Medical Technology Association, announced last week that Boston will be the first city outside of DC to host its annual medical technology conference since it was launched in 2007. The Boston event will take place, October 1-3, 2012, while this year’s event in DC is set for September 26-28. Looking ahead, DC will host AdvaMed 2013.
One needs only to look at the membership roster of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), which claims 400 member companies, to know that the Boston area is a hotbed of medtech activity and the right nonDC host city for AdvaMed’s renowned medical technology conference.
“Choosing Boston was an easy decision because this metropolitan area is so critical to the health of the medical technology industry and the life-saving, life-changing products it makes,” said AdvaMed Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Kenneth Mendez during the kick-off breakfast held at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
“I encourage all those in the Boston area to become involved in the 2012 planning committee and to participate in the 2011 conference to learn more about this world-class event that will come to our hometown,” said Joe Almeida, CEO of Covidien and Chairman of the AdvaMed 2012 Executive Conference Committee.
This year’s event in DC, AdvaMed 2011, will feature keynote addresses by President George W. Bush, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, Jeffrey Shuren, Director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at FDA. It will also feature nearly 40 educational panels, 60 company presentations, an innovation alley within the exhibit hall, a series of “CEO Unplugged” sessions, and various networking events. The MedTech partnering system provides attendees with a unique opportunity to arrange one-to-one business development meetings as part of their full conference registration package. Supported by more than 80 sponsors, 35 state and national supporting partner organizations, and a host of media partners, including Medical Design, the conference expects nearly 1,900 attendees from more than 30 states and 20 countries.
