Industry aids Haiti
Many medical device OEMs and suppliers have provided aid to the Haiti earthquake relief efforts. These companies include:
• Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, IL, donated $2.5 million in cash and supplies – pharmaceuticals and nutritional products.
• Astro-Med, Inc, West Warwick, RI, said its Grass Technologies subsidiary donated a Comet Portable EEG (electroencephalograph) system to the Port-au-Prince Epilepsy Clinic. The donation is valued at $20,000.
• Becton, Dickinson and Company, Franklin Lakes, NJ, pledged $550,000 to support relief efforts, plus $500,000 worth of medical equipment. • Biomet’s Trauma Division (biomet. com/trauma/), Warsaw, IN, donated $3.1 million in adult and pediatric orthopedic trauma and fracture management devices, plus 16,000 braces to help patients with leg fractures.
• ConvaTec, Princeton, NJ, donated $400,000 worth of advanced wound dressings and skin care products.
• Gene Haas Foundation, named for Haas Automation President Gene Haas, donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross relief effort. Haas Automation (haascnc. com), Oxnard, CA, is said to be North America’s largest machine tool maker.
• Kinetic Concepts, Inc, San Antonio, provided $2 million worth of wound care products.
