Report highlights GE Healthcare’s growth, innovation

John Dineen, president and CEO, GE Healthcare, centers GE’s growth on its Healthymagination initiative.

Espicom Business Intelligence has published a company intelligence report highlighting GE Healthcare and its Healthymagination initiative.  According to the report, GE’s growth strategy for its healthcare division centers around its Healthymagination initiative under which it has committed $6 billion to enable better health focusing on cost, quality, and access. It generated revenues of $16.9 billion in 2010, up 5.5% on the previous year and representing 11% of its parent company’s total sales.

The report says the company is also drawing on the capabilities of several other GE subsidiaries to deliver better care to more people by reducing the cost of procedures and processes with GE technologies and services, increasing people’s access to services and technologies essential for health, and improving quality and efficiency for customers through simplifying and refining healthcare procedures and standards of care. It is also investing in content to drive healthcare IT and health in rural and underserved areas.

Forming alliances and joint ventures are playing an important part in the Healthymagination initiative. GE has also formed the GE Healthymagination Fund to invest in companies globally that it considers offer highly promising healthcare technologies that are aligned with the strategic objectives of the Healthymagination program. In addition, GE Healthcare plans to invest $3 billion by 2015 into developing new products and technologies and on expanding its R&D activities overseas in countries such as China, India, and South Korea. This is in addition to the $1 billion it already spends annually on R&D, according to the report.

New products and technologies also continue to be a priority to GE Healthcare’s strategic objectives. Recent announcements include FDA approvals for the Optima MR430s 1.5T musculoskeletal MR system; the Vivid E9 BT 11 cardiovascular ultrasound system; the FlashPad detector, the Carescape B650 monitor; and clearance to use CZT technology in the assessment and early detection of breast cancer. Other recent product launches include Vscan, a pocket-sized visualization tool; the MARS Virtual Sleep Lab; the eHealth Solutions platform; SenoBright technology to reduce ambiguity in mammography results; and the Infinia Hawkeye HD Enhanced model to its SPECT/CT platform.

Published by Espicom Business Intelligence, the GE Healthcare Company Intelligence Report provides further details on the Healthymagination program and a full review of the company's activities, from its origins to its latest corporate activity, including mergers and acquisitions, agreements, divestitures, and litigation. Sections are also included on products, corporate strategy, and R&D, as well as an in-depth five-year financial analysis.
