Silicone-rubber maker Stockwell Elastomerics, Philadelphia, (stockwell.com) has developed a closed-cell fluorosilicone sponge rubber that meets AMS 3323, Class 2 (medium density). Like silicone rubber, fluorosilicone (fluorinated silicone rubber) is resilient, stable in high and low temperatures, and resistant to aging and degradation from sunlight and ozone. The fluorosilicone sponge is available in 0.032, 0.062, and 0.125 in. thickness with high-strength acrylic adhesive backings. Pads and gaskets in thickness of 0.188 in. or greater are provided by laminating layers using a flexible fluorosilicone based adhesive.
