Medical Center Becomes a Research Park

The former Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver has been transformed into Fitzsimmons Research Park, a 578-acre facility. Half the land will go to facilities that incubate bioscience companies. About 17 such companies are using the incubator and two have already outgrown the facility. The organization provides office space with equipment, short-term leases, business support, and funding assistance. Local investments of $1 billion have been made through 2005 to build 3 million ft2 and another $1 billion by 2010 will yield 7 million ft2. By 2007, some 13,000 will be employed at the facility.
