Comings ‘n’ goings
A newly named executive adviser and an outgoing CDRG director are among the latest personnel moves at FDA.
Michael Taylor, former Monsanto vice president for public policy, was named adviser to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. Hamburg said Taylor would work with her office and with the management of the FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Center for Veterinary Medicine, Congress, and with members of the Obama Administration. Taylor first worked for the FDA in 1976 as a litigating attorney. He then served as the FDA's deputy commissioner for policy from 1991 to 1994, overseeing the FDA's policy development and rulemaking, including the implementation of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act and issuance of new seafood safety rules.
Daniel Schultz, director of the FDA's Center for of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) since 2004 resigned following internal dissent over device-approval decisions. Schultz worked at the CDRH for a total of 15 years and says his decision is “by mutual agreement” with FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg.
