Software simulates electric fields and more

FEA software QuickField V5 simulates electromagnetic, stress, and thermal characteristics, and users need no specialized training, according to developer Tera Analysis Ltd, Svendborg, Denmark, (quickfield.com). Improvements to V5 include connecting external circuits to transient electromagnetic analysis, the introduction of tolerance analysis, and 64-bit Windows compatibility.

Tolerance analysis works for serial and parametric calculations. It lets users analyze variations in results caused by manufacturing inaccuracies and unstable material properties. After solving a QuickField problem, users can apply random changes to geometric sizes and physical properties of some parts. The software then performs a statistical analysis on results. This tool can also estimate the maximum possible deviation of input parameters providing the needed level of system performance.

Combined field and circuit analysis for ac magnetic problems is now extended to transient electromagnetics. This supports active and passive loads, end zone effects, complicated winding connections, and may be applied to electric machine analysis as well as magnetic devices with solid (or thick) conductors. Postprocessing includes in-depth time-domain analysis of electric circuits attached to the magnetic-field simulation domain.
