Summit on healthcare reform’s impact on medtech

InHealth’s 2011 Health Technology Summit, April 14, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington,  will feature key medical technology stakeholders, including policy professionals, healthcare economists, and clinical professionals, will examine how central elements of the healthcare system still in transition a year after enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are affecting the domestic and international environments for medical technology innovation, from payment systems to regulation.

Sessions will include:
“Medical Technology in the Era of Reform”
In this keynote presentation, Harvard University’s David M. Cutler, PhD, a healthcare economist and national policy advisor, will explore how reform-related policies and practices may impact medical technologies––and how medtech companies and policymakers can best respond.

“Reform and the Changing Framework of Healthcare Research”
Moderated by Clifford Goodman, PhD, of The Lewin Group, this session will examine how the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute will interact with existing agencies such as AHRQ, CMS, FDA, and IOM to advance research, and what their combined efforts will mean for medtech.

“Payer Innovation and Access to Healthcare Technology”
Leslie V. Norwalk, JD, strategic counsel to Epstein Becker & Green PC and former acting administrator for CMS, will moderate as experts discuss the new CMS Innovation Center and whether it can preserve patient access to advanced medtech while developing and diffusing new care and payment models for Medicare, Medicaid, and the healthcare system at large.

“Reform, Investment, and Innovation”
Healthcare reform remains a work in progress and in this session, medtech investors and business development professionals consider the impact of such uncertainty on the current and future pipeline for medtech innovation.
