When Ann Kochsiek’s son, Ry, was diagnosed with leukemia at age 4, he spent a lot of time at the hospital for treatments. Ann decided that these rooms “cold, scary, and very unfriendly” for children. Ann designed and patented several smilinganimal- shaped tables, and her ZooPals were soon a hit in pediatric offices worldwide. These children-friendly tables help create a better atmosphere for children and parents alike.

In 2000, Ann’s ZooPals was acquired by Pedia Pals, a manufacturer of pediatric medical equipment and supplies. Pedia Pals was founded in August 1998 by Wendy and Ed Powell. Today, Ann is Pedia Pals’ vice president of marketing and Ry is a healthy college student.
