MD&M East – New York City
MD&M East — New York City
The 26th annual MD&M East show comes to the Javits Convention Center in New York City. The expo runs Tuesday to Thursday, June 3 to 5, and conferences run June 2 to 5. Visit mdmeast.com for more information and to register. New to the show this year are Optics and Biomedevice pavilions in addition to LaserTec, PrecisionTec, MedPak, Quality, and Medical Electronics.
Deburr bone screws quickly with new blaster
Visitors to the show can try out AccuFlo, an abrasive blaster equipped with Simoom Technology — a system of mixing air and abrasive to improve flow consistency. The result is tighter control over the volume of powder flowing through the machine. Manufacturing orthopedic products, such as bone screws, requires close tolerances and rigid surface finish requirements. Precision machining can, however, generate an inconsistent surface finish. Micro-abrasive blasting removes machining defects. Microblasting is also effective for processing such medical parts as stents, cannulae, guidewires, pacemakers, and surgical tools.

Configurable component tech seminar to be held during show
Highlighted at this year's show are Misumi's single-axis actuators, linear shafts, linear guides, locating pins, aluminum extrusions, rollers, and more. Most components useful to medical equipment are configurable, with downloadable CAD files and full specs available at the company's website. Also, during the show, in Hall 1E, Misumi will conduct a Configurable Component Technical Seminar to demonstrate the advantages of configurable components to machine, equipment, and assembly system engineers attending the show.

Heavy-duty coolant for device machining
Hocut 795-B is a metalworking fluid used to manufacture products for orthopaedics, implants, cardiology, diagnostics, and surgical instruments. The fluid is a water-soluble coolant for machining 300 and 400-series stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum alloys. Resistant to odor-causing bacteria, it reduces the need for sumpside additives and assures long, odor-free sump life. Hocut 795-B provides corrosion protection and good lubrication for machine ways and indexing mechanisms. Medical manufacturers will benefit from reduced disposal costs, in-process protection of machinery and parts, longer tool life, and improved surface finishing.

Holes as small as 10 um in ceramics
PPC precision ceramic machining and extrusion methods make extruded rods, tubes, and irregular shapes held to sub-micron tolerances with an extraordinary level of concentricity, eccentricity, and end-to-end straightness. Ceramics, known for their thermal and electrical insulating capabilities, as well as materials that are biocompatible and transparent to certain radio frequencies, can be used in the process. Medical applications include implantable devices, designs that send or receive radio transmission, devices that need a small orifice that will not erode, equipment needing multi-lumen tubes, and designs that need custom configurations such as non-round holes.
