Location lets injection molder better-serve customers
Injection molder Formula Plastics, (formulaplastics.com) of Baja CA, Mexico, says being located just south of the U.S. border lets the company easily purchase the latest in technology and JIT deliveries to U.S. customers.
The ISO-certified injection molding facility includes a Class 100,000 clean room, 60 injection molding machines ranging from 30 to 550 ton, and an advanced metrology lab — all on a secure ten-acre campus that also includes an award-winning restaurant, childcare facilities for its workers, and even a community auditorium.
“I was invited to lunch at the plant and was struck by the the high quality of the cafeteria food and service,” says Michael Parks, manager of supply chain planning and logistics for Scantibodies Laboratory Inc, Santee, CA. “I wondered whether these high standards reflected the overall quality and capabilities of the production processes, and so I took a tour of the company.”
Parks says he had sourced injection molded components in many parts of the world, but Formula Plastics impressed him most. “The company’s molding operations were based on an attention to detail we felt are critical for our medical diagnostic pregnancy test devices. The company seemed to care about their employees, customers, and the community. So we performed a quality audit — which the company passed with flying colors — and proceeded to place orders,” he says.
