A hospital bed that speeds healing

hospital bed

The VersaCare bed from the Hill-Rom Corp, Batesville, IN, helps patients heal faster and makes it easier for hospital personnel staff to move and care for patients. For example, the bed features strong, reliable perimeter gates to keep patients from falling out of bed and also the lowest bed height to make it easier for patients to get in and out of bed, which helps reduce the potential for nursing-staff injuries. West Virginia Hospital, for example, reports an 81% drop in such injuries.

The bed is also fully adjustable. Large, easy-to-use controls for staff are located on the side off the rails or on the floor. Patients also can control the bed adjustments using a handheld pendant. There are also several alarms, including ones that sound if the head of the bed is raised too high (a risk in cardiac cases), if the patient leaves the bed, if the brakes on the portable bed’s wheels aren’t set, or if rails are moved. The bed can be lengthened for tall patients or be instantly positioned for administering CPR. The bed’s surfaces and structural member are coated with antimicrobial silver particles.
