Keeping clamps simple

Clamps on IV lines and other tubing carrying liquids can be clumsy to operate. Hospital staff opening some clamps can inadvertently tug on the tubing and dislodge them or hurt patients. The Easy Open Pinch Clamp from Z-Man Corp., Kentwood, Mich. (zmancorp.com) eliminates these problems with its “squeeze to open/squeeze to close” design. It can be operated from any angle, and doesn't take two hands or awkward thumb movements. The clamps are available in a variety of colors and materials, including acetal, nylon, polypropylene, and nylon with glass filler. There are different versions to handle tubing with outer diameters from 3 to 6.3 mm.
