How to off-shore to China

Smart Sourcing Inc., Long Island, N.Y. (smartsourcing.com) has added a division that will let companies in the U.S. outsource medical-device manufacturing and assembly tasks to Asia using what the company calls its Support Sourcing program. SSI lets clients reduce the cost of manufacturing through a proprietary network of facilities in China. The company says savings can range from 30 to 80% with labor- intensive products. SSI President David Hale adds that the company is aware of concerns regarding outsourcing, such as, loss of control, diminished quality, and production errors. “So before announcing the new division, we tested preproduction of PCBs, injection-molded parts, and other subassemblies. Tests confirm that manufacturing capabilities and the quality system are ISO 9001 and ISO-13485 certified,” says Hale. In addition, manufacturing can be done in Class I, II, or III clean rooms.
