Lidstock withstands demanding sterilization

Flexi 6864 is a polyethylene coated with a polyester-foil-heat-seal for demanding applications such as orthopedic parts, cardio kits, diagnostics, and other heavy medical devices. The material has been engineered to heat seal to thermoformed trays made from a variety of materials including Barex acrylonitrile, amorphous polyethylene terephthalate, crystallized PET, high-density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, and polypropylene. Flexi 6864 features a 75-gauge polyester and a 1 mil foil layer to create a high oxygen and moisture barrier for the tray's contents.

Resins keep packaging lightweight

High-viscosity injection-molding materials produce thin-wall applications that require high clarity and rigidity. Metocene HM640T, a high melt flow (60 g/10 min) reactor-grade homopolymer resin has a narrow molecular weight distribution. This enables a high degree of resin consistency which creates low warpage and high-dimensional stable parts, high clarity, and good stiffness.

Metocene HM1753 is a higher (140 g/10 min) melt-flow reactor grade homopolymer resin with nucleation and antistat for thin-wall packaging. It has good stiffness, transparency, and low warpage. Injection-molding grades are an alternative to crystal polystyrene because of part weight reductions up to 40%.

Fill-seal system checks itself for leaks

Horizontal thermoform fill-seal machines combine rollstock packaging technology with thermal imaging and monitoring. This lets users package products at high speeds and inspect, identify, track, and when necessary, reject packages. The system allows for 100% non-destructive inspection of every seal without slowing production, substantially lowering the likelihood of out-of-spec items being delivered to customers.

Flexible case packer handles odd-shaped containers

The Versatron Active Product Transport (APT) case packer is intended for high-speed packing of nonround containers. The system packs reverse tapered, locking shape, personal-care containers, trigger and unstable bottles, flasks, and other containers traditionally difficult to handle.

Powered by a high-speed servomotor, the Versatron pulls products into the packing area, eliminating line pressure and avoiding jams. The machine is equipped with a beaded lane guide to eliminate friction as containers are carried along the conveyor belt. This helps avoid locking or shingling. Additionally, the Versatron APT's sensors detect the number of bottles to guarantee that each case is packed properly. Available in non-indexing and indexing case feed, the packer runs at speeds up to 75 cases/min., with a maximum of 8 lanes operating simultaneously.
