Bioabsorbable screw for tendons

Foot surgeons often take tendons from one place in a patient and graft them to a bone in the foot or ankle. But many of the methods used to fix the graft to the foot bone, such as suture anchors and suturing the tendon into a bone trough, use up much of the tendon. This means surgeons must harvest longer tendons, and this adds to patient discomfort and recovery time. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic, (clevelandclinic.org)Cleveland, have developed a method of attaching a tendon using a bioabsorbable interference screw that lets them use shorter tendons in foot repair.
