Medical-grade TPUs are FDA and ISO approved
Three medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) include a new Texin resin and two new Desmopan TPU resins. Texin 285 TPU is formulated for extrusion, injection molding, and blown film processing. With its excellent abrasion resistance and moldability, the resin is useful for a variety of applications, including wound dressings, fabric coatings, tubing, packaging and films, and soft touch grips. Designed for blown film manufacturing, Desmopan DP 2590A TPU may be used for wound dressings, fabric coatings, packaging and films, and surgical drapes. This TPU resin features excellent tear strength and puncture resistance. Desmopan DP 9370A TPU is the softest medical-grade TPU in BMS' portfolio, making it ideal for use in catheters, tubing, and soft grip applications. Desmopan DP 9370A TPU can be extruded or injection molded. The resin features excellent hydrolytic stability and microbe resistance. Texin and Desmopan TPU resins have been customized for the medical market and meet the requirements of FDA-modified ISO 10993 Part 1 “Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices” tests for 30-day indirect blood contact applications.
