Easily mountable encoders control low-end linear operations

For straightforward motion applications that must mount small encoders quickly and easily, Heidenhain Corp., Schaumburg, Ill., (heidenhain.us), offers an exposed linear encoder package, the LIDA 200 series. These new exposed encoders mount easily for use in low-end linear motors.

Accuracy requirements in these applications are considerably lower than high-end applications such as in the semiconductor industry. LIDA 200 encoders maintain the same high quality graduations, accuracy, and reliability of the LIDA 400 series but also offer a grating period of 200 µm for analog systems (for digital systems, signal periods of 5, 1, and 0.5 µm are available).

LIDA 200 encoders are simply and quickly mounted by scale tape that comes in rolls with reference marks. Users cut the length and place the tape on the mounting surface with its adhesive film. The tape can also be mounted by means of a carrier extrusion, along with supplied adhesive and clamping mechanism for thermal effects.
