Cook Medical to create 200 jobs in Ireland
DUBLIN, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Privately-held medical device company Cook Medical will generate 200 new jobs through the expansion of its manufacturing plant in the southwestern Irish city of Limerick, the Irish government said on Tuesday. Cook Medical, which already employs nearly 500 people in Limerick making devices for use in urology, gastroenterology, and women's health, will invest 25 million euros ($35.79 million) in the facility.
'Today's news is another fantastic development for the thriving medical technology industry in Ireland,' Deputy Prime Minister Mary Coughlan said in a statement.
Cook plans to make Limerick the sole global manufacturing site for its new stent product, Zilver PTX -- used in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease.
Cook has subsidiaries in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia and had revenues of $1.25 billion in 2007.
