Things you won’t hear on the World’s Smartest Design Engineer game
Have you tried our World's Smartest Design Engineer game yet? Many of our readers play because it is fun. You can also win cool prizes — Kindles and such. The host of the game is an avatar of our Editor Lee Teschler. He says had the game designers ever met him, they would have known he would be unlikely to utter the annoying phrases that continually come from his avatar when players submit wrong answers. He offers these alternatives:
  • That's the kind of pig-ignorant answer I’d expect from a bubblehead like you.
  • Did you get your engineering degree by mail order?
  • I've got a pair of shoes that knows more about this than you do.
  • If your driving is as good as your engineering then the roads are a dangerous place to be.
  • When it comes to engineering, you have a lot to be modest about.
  • Humans only use about a tenth of their brain power. With you, it could be less.

In the late 19th century, this process was automated with the use of strip-chart recorders that mechanically recorded measurements onto paper. Strip-chart recorders were a great leap over manual recording but still had drawbacks.
