Medical Design announces its first prototyping conference

Following up on the success of its Medical Silicone Conference (MSC) events, Medical Design is pleased to announce its first-ever Medical Prototyping Conference (MPC), set for Sept 7 and 8 at the Depot Renaissance Hotel in Minneapolis. The event will feature presentations on stereolithography (SLA), selective laser sintering (SLS), 3-D printing, fused deposition manufacturing (FDM), direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), and rapid injection molding. MPC will focus on applying prototyping technologies in the medical device industry and exhibitors will be on hand to explain their technologies. J&J to make $21B buy in Switzerland

US medical conglomerate Johnson & Johnson is preparing to buy Swiss medical devices maker Synthes, Inc, according to Switzerland Trade and Investment. The acquisition, likely to close in the first half of 2012, is valued at over $21 billion and represents J&J’s largest buy ever and largest M&A transaction of the year to date.

News Conference and Webcast: Assessment of
510(k) Process to be Released

On May 24, investigators from Northwestern University will release a new, in-depth analysis of industry and agency practices within FDA’s 510(k) pathway for premarket product review. Funded by the Institute for Health Technology Studies (InHealth), the study provides findings from the most comprehensive survey to date about the 510(k) process. The results will be presented at a news conference at the National Press Club (Washington, DC) and streamed live on the web.
