IBM’s Watson wows ‘em at Cleveland Clinic Summit

By Joe Jancsurak, Editor
Former Vice President Dick Cheney was there to share his own cardio care experience during a one-on-one with NBC’s Robert Bazell, as was GE CEO and the president’s “jobs czar,” Jeff Immelt, who came to discuss the global economy and the medtech biz in a one-one-one with CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo. But one of the surprise show-stoppers at the Cleveland Clinic’s Medical Innovation Summit on “State of the Heart Cardiovascular Technologies” held two weeks ago was named Watson, as in IBM’s Watson. Straumann and 3M team to launch ‘nano’ material for dental

A collaboration involving Basel, Switzerland-based Straumann and St. Paul, MN-based 3M ESPE has resulted in the launch of Lava Ultimate Restorative, a resin nano ceramic (RNC) for dental that combines nano ceramic components with a highly cross-linked resin matrix. When cured, the material mimics the translucency and fluorescence of natural teeth, and because of its strength, the material can be used to produce complete restorations in a single piece, rather than in multiple layers, and is also for thin, minimally invasive, restorations. In contrast to ceramics, RNC does not require firing and is particularly suitable for final adjustment and polishing.
