Readers and nation remain divided over healthcare reform

Last month’s online poll asked Medical Edge and Medical Design readers if they are for or against healthcare reform. The results show that 43% answered in the affirmative, while 37% are opposed. The remainder is undecided. For the sake of comparison, a recent Gallup poll shows that 39% of Americans are opposed and “would direct their members of Congress to vote against a healthcare reform bill this fall,” while 37% “want their members to vote in favor." This month's question is a follow-up to last month’s.

FDA grants $2M for children’s medical devices
Three researchers in Michigan, Massachusetts, and California, have been awarded $2 million by the FDA for development of implants for children who face increased risks during surgery because so few of these devices are designed for their use. The announcement comes two years after Congress passed legislation to address the problem, which is little-known outside the medical world.
