Thin-film sputtering deposition strain sensors
Many applications use a manufacturing process known as thin-film sputtering deposition. The typical sputtering process uses an ion beam to impact the surface of a sputter material such as gold, silver, or other metal or metallic oxide. In so doing, some of the sputter-material atoms get knocked into free space. The atoms bond with a substrate material to form a thin coating that may be only a few atoms thick.

Biomedical Testing Solutions

Instron® offers a variety of fixtures designed specifically for the biomedical industry for test applications involving common medical devices. The XY-Stage is used to test end products or components, offering travel ranges in both the X and Y directions. The Syringe Test Fixture allows for precise friction measurement for syringe plungers and meets the requirements of ISO 7886-1. The Component Test Plate is a tapped plate with an array of threaded holes that is useful when testing irregular pieces or components.

Controlling risk in medical devices
Engineers developing medical equipment may not have much control over the hazards inherent in devices they are designing. X-ray imagers and anesthesiology equipment will always pose some risks to patient safety. But if a design fails, consequences can be catastrophic. So one of every medical designers’ tasks is to reduce the risks and probabilities of failure. And almost every design decision can affect these two factors.

7 critical issues in heater selection for OEM applications
Product development is a complex process. In addition to cost and time-to-market, developers have to address a variety of sometimes-conflicting issues that can include size, weight, speed, reliability, flexibility, ease of use, safety, manufacturability, support costs and more. One aspect of product design that may not show up on your list of top priorities is heating.

In fact, the heating technologies you choose, whether off-the-shelf or customized, can have a significant impact on many aspects of your product including performance, cost, and even time-to-market.

This 60-minute webcast will present seven factors that can help you make the most of your heating choices.

Micro valves
The mini MV micro valves from Schunk Inc. in Morrisville, N.C., offer short cycle times, low-energy consumption, and high reliability. The electrically actuated 3/2 pneumatic valves screw directly onto the actuator, making hose connections between the valve and the actuator unnecessary, reducing interfering contours and assembly expense. Airflow and air connection threads are specified exactly for the relevant actuator. The maintenance-free valves take just 7 msec to switch, and have a 900 million switching-cycle lifespan.
