Ushering in an era of “Comparative Effectiveness”

The $787 billion economic stimulus bill signed into law this week by President Obama will, for the first time, provide money -- $1.1 billion -- for the federal government to compare the effectiveness of different treatments for the same illness. What this will mean for the medical-device industry remains to be seen.

Cook goes live with peripheral vascular advancements

The Advance PTX drug-eluting balloon by Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind., was part of a clinical trial during one of the live case demonstrations at the ISET 2009 International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy. Cook also introduced microwires as part of a leg-therapy initiative.
