Silicone elastomer innovations
Series 7000 transparent liquid silicone rubbers (LSR) by Momentive Performance Materials, Waterford, NY, come in a range of durometers. The products are intended for use in a 1:1 mix ratio, and cure rapidly to high-strength elastomers when heated in standard injection molding equipment. The platinum-catalyzed LSR series was originally introduced for use in electronics, but its transparency and stability make it well-suited for these healthcare applications: wound drains, endoscopic devices, catheters, and respiratory components. CLS5000 and LSR2740 self-bonding LSR can reduce process steps thanks to primerless adhesion to metal and plastic substrates. And StatSil antimicrobial elastomers for IV components, catheters, and wound drains minimize microbial growth in or on the human body.
