Versatile coupler makes O2 connections fast and reliable

Hospitals and clinics now use two different types of oxygen cylinders (CGA 870 and CGA 540) in their cylinder racks. Of course, not all valves can handle both cylinders. So medical establishments must either install new racks or purchase screw-on connectors, both of which add time and expenses. To solve this problem, engineers at Fastest Inc., Roseville, Minn., (www.fastestinc.com) developed the Variquik coupler which can be used with both CGA 870 and 540 cylinders. It has been tested for use with oxygen. Sleeve actuation makes it fast and easy to connect and disconnect the coupling.

The device is made of steel and brass for durability, while the brass also acts as a heat sink. An internal lock prevents disconnects while under pressure. The internally valved female component lets a fill rack operate while filling connectors are missing or being individually serviced. And a swivel connection eliminates kinks in the pigtails that are common to hoses.
