Smart couplings

PLC IdentiQuik couplings by Colder Products Company, St. Paul, MN, incorporate radio frequency identification (RFID) to verify line connection accuracy and to capture fluid and product data from point-of-origin through point-of-use, enabling medical device manufacturers and processors to comply with 21 CFR Part 11 regulations. The technology enables equipment to electronically identify the device type or connected media and its characteristics by automatically exchanging product data prior to connection of the coupling body and insert. The couplings have simple thumb latches for one-handed connection and disconnection. An audible “click” indicates a secure connection. Integral terminations translate to shorter assemblies and faster installations. The couplings are made from acetal thermoplastic or polypropylene. Operating pressures range from vacuum to 120 psi at 8.3 bar and temperatures from 32°F to 150°F (0°C to 65°C).
