Making tubing connections a snap

Click for full size

Healthcare professionals sometimes make misconnections when using luer fittings to connect medical tubing because luers will fit almost any tube. A new connector from Colder Products, St. Paul, Minn., (colder.com), the SRC Small-bore Connector, provides a leak-free alternative that should eliminate misconnections because it is, in effect, a female connector that will only accept male counterparts. It is made of polypropylene with over molded TPE grip pads, both of which can withstand gamma, e-beam, and EtO sterilization. An audible “click” and a positive feel lets the technician know a good connection has been made. The secure connection also reduces or eliminates accidental disconnects. And once connected, tubing on both sides of the connectors can rotate independently to prevent kinking. The device handles tubing from ⅛ to 3/16 in. ID. It is used for blood or waste collection lines, gas applications, and compression therapy.
